Support program aims to support producers through volatile markets

While global uncertainty is driving up fuel and fertilizer costs for Canadian producers, a Canadian company is working to help them during this period.

District Director for the Peace Country at Farm Credit Canada, Kyle Turner, said the lender has been leveraging its customer support program, launched a year ago, to help producers navigate volatile markets.

“Just recently, with the disruption in the Middle East and seeing fuel prices and fertilizer prices at a really critical time starting to grow, we’ve been leveraging our customer support program to support producers during this time,” Turner said.

Turner explained the program is tailored to help producers’ operations stay viable through products and services, educational resources and access to FCC’s networks. He emphasized the support extends to all producers, not only FCC customers.

“Helping producers at the ground level, making sure they can stay viable and stay producing during these times, it’s just critically important,” Turner said. “We cannot afford to have producers not having seed to put in the ground or fertilizer to support their operation or fuel to keep running it during seeding and harvest.”

As Canada, the U.S. and Mexico are set to head into renegotiations this year for a new agreement, Turner said analysts will be closely monitoring trade talks to adapt quickly and provide guidance to producers.
