GP Youth Fest to bring the fun to Muskoseepi Park this summer

The future is now as a new youth focused festival has been announced for later this year in Grande Prairie.

GP Youth Fest, a new festival aimed at kids and teens, has been set up for this summer. According to organizers, the event will host an abundance of activities including guest speakers, food trucks, a basketball tournament, and contests.

According to organizers they will host an abundance of activities including guest speakers, food trucks, a basketball tournament, and contests with prizes to be won.

Festival Founder EJ Igao says the event was created to try and find a solution he often hears from other students; there’s simply nothing to do in Grande Prairie.

“The number one complaint that the youth would tell me is that Grande Prairie is not fun or that there is not a lot to do in Grande Prairie. I want to change that.”

Igao said in addition to giving themselves something for the day, he hopes the festival can also remind people that life after high school or post-secondary doesn’t necessarily have to see you move postal codes.

“It’s also aimed at showcasing the vast amount of potential opportunity to [be found] here in the Peace Region,” he added.

While details about headliners and acts will be released at a later date, Igao said one thing he’s looking forward to is a regional talent show; which he hopes can inspire some budding local acts.

“Give people a chance to showcase their talents, give them an opportunity to get exposed to the community, and give them an opportunity to plant some roots.”

The inaugural GP Youth Fest takes place June 25th in Muskoseepi Park.
