Alberta man facing slew of charges following stolen Sheriff car caper

A 42-year-old is facing multiple charges after an Alberta Sheriff’s patrol vehicle was allegedly stolen Tuesday night.

Just after 10 p.m., Mounties were made aware that a patrol vehicle had been taken by a person under arrest. Alberta RCMP and the Alberta Sheriffs Branch worked with the RCMP Real Time Operations Centre to locate the vehicle near Gunn a short time later.

Police pursued the vehicle and deployed a tire deflation device, but the cruiser continued to travel on flat tires.

When the driver attempted to enter Spruce Grove, RCMP forced the vehicle into a ditch. Police said the vehicle re-entered the roadway and drove into oncoming traffic. An RCMP cruiser then struck the vehicle, disabling it.

The suspect was taken to hospital with injuries.

Police said charges are pending, including flight from police, escape lawful custody, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief over $5,000 and five counts of failing to comply with a release order.
