For the third straight week, the Grande Prairie Storm have made the Canadian Junior Hockey League top 20 power rankings list.
The CJHL consists of nine different leagues from across the country, which totals out to 116 different teams. Currently only two AJHL teams are in the weekly ranking, the Storm at #16 and the Whitecourt Wolverines at #11.
The Storm first made the weekly ranking on Jan. 26th, sliding into #20. Since then, the team has continued to climb the rankings, improving to #17 on Feb. 2nd.
Head Coach of the team, Chris Schmidt said that the team had a bit of a shaky start to the season, but the last few months have been getting better.
“I think anytime you are doing more winning then loosing, it’s a lot easier to come to the rink,” Schmidt said.
He added that the guys have been happier, and that the recent good play starts with hard work.
“I think we have did a pretty good job in the last couple of months of executing our game plan.”
The Storm have the opportunity to climb that list even more this weekend, as they slated to faceoff against Whitecourt twice this week, starting Friday, Feb. 13.
