Officials mark Keyera Place naming with ribbon cutting, free use day

The City of Grande Prairie held an all-day open-house, in celebration for the ribbon-cutting of their new naming rights sponsor.

Formerly known as the Activity and Reception Centre, The Keyera Place is the new naming rights sponsor for the centre. According to Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton, title sponsors such as this one, helps bring-in funding for the city.

“Naming rights and opportunities are a revenue stream for the city. It’s also an opportunity for significant organizations to take pride in the facilities that we offer to the city and region.”

The 16,000 square foot recreation centre offers not only a space for dryland sports, but can also be shifted into a emergency centre, if a devastating situation ever took place in the city. Suppling showers, and a space for people to sleep.

“It’s not only a low-cost recreation facility that is easily accessible, it’s also an emergency facility, in an emergency this building can be pivoted to being an emergency centre.”

On Dec. 5, community members got a chance to checkout the recreation building free of cost.
