WCB coverage now required for Alberta farmers and ranchers

Bill 6 is now in effect for farmers and ranchers in Alberta. As of January 1st, Workers Compensation Board insurance coverage is required for all paid workers, other than family members.

Employers have until April 30th to register. Occupational Health and Safety standards also now apply to workers.

The contentious Enhanced Protection for Farm and Ranch Workers Act was the last thing passed by the government before the break. After more consultation, specific OHS standards will be developed, along with employment standards and labour relations codes.
