First event of Peace Curling Tour this weekend in Grande Prairie

The Pomeroy Inn & Suites Peace Curling Tour kicks off tonight in Grande Prairie. Teams will be competing for 20 spots in the Tour Championships, held the second week of January in Sexsmith.

After the Cash Spiel at the Grande Prairie Curling Club, the tour will head to Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Peace River. There are berths for eight competitive, eight challenge, and four junior teams.

Some notable competitors include 2011 and 2012 mixed provincial champion skip Kurt Balderston and fifth for Team Canada in the men’s national and world championships Tom Sallows. They’re joined by 2012 Master’s Men’s Champion Colin Griffith, 2012 Arctic Winter Games medalist Courtney Rossing, and World Curling Teams Delia DeJong and Scott Webb.

The action gets started at 6 p.m.
