Multi-family homes offer glimmer of hope for housing starts

Housing starts in Grande Prairie saw a little improvement last month. Construction started on 175 new homes in September, just shy of the 199 in that month last year.

The city has seen dismal numbers so far in 2015, falling to 40 per cent of 2014’s pace by the end of the summer. That has since rebounded to 58 per cent, largely due to a spike in multiple family homes.

170 were started last month, which is actually 10 more than in September 2014. The lag is coming from single family homes, as the five built last month only bring the total to 27 per cent of last year’s stats at this point.
