United Way Slave Lake merging with Alberta Northwest chapter

Two United Way organizations in northern Alberta have merged. The United Way of Slave Lake is being dissolved, and once that’s finalized, it will become a part of the United Way Alberta Northwest.

Executive Director Brenda Yamkowy says they’ve been talking about the decision for the past year, and believe that by combining resources they’ll be able to make an impact on issues like poverty and high school achievement on a bigger scale.  Board Chair Patrick Davidson adds the two teams are coming together as a way to increase efficiency and add more funds to programs.

Once the merger is complete, they’ll operate under the United Way Alberta Northwest name, and a regional campaign cabinet will be developed in Slake Lake, supported by Grande Prairie staff.
