The Grande Prairie Catholic School Board has decided to commit $5 million to the construction of a performing arts theatre in the junior-senior school that is being built in Arbour Hills.
The theatre will seat 350 and will be configured to allow for traditional theatre performances, banquets, and other fine art events to be held there. The board had to decide whether or not to fund the theatre by the end of August as work on designing the school is nearing completion.
The $5 million will be taken from the district’s reserve fund. Construction on the school is expected to get underway early next year with an opening date set for fall 2017.
