Mirelle Martens continues to add to her impressive rookie year resume. The GPRC Wolves runner won a silver medal in the women’s 3,000 metre race at the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships Friday in Edmonton. Martens was part of the lead pack that ran the first kilometre in 3:08, pulling away in the last 800 metres for a second place finish and a personal best time of 9:41.
The performance is considered a redemption for the ACAC Female Athlete of the Year. She qualified for the Pan Am race with a time of 9:42 in May, but finished 8th at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships in 10:07.
