Development of LNG service station approved for west end

The development of a liquefied natural gas station has been approved for the west end of Grande Prairie. The lot at the corner of 104th Avenue and 118th Street is currently vacant, and surrounded by gas stations and big box retail stores.

The permit approved by the Community Growth Committee allows for a 60,500 litre above ground tank, which is just over twice the current limit for service stations. ENN Canada intends to use it as a gas bar for large transport trucks, like other cardlock facilities nearby, but with an alternative fuel source.

The site is not expected to cause any issues for its neighbours, and the City notes that emissions, smoke, and odour may actually be less than traditional gas stations.
