Grande Prairie’s oldest home opens for summer tours

The oldest home in Grande Prairie, the Reverend Forbes Homestead and Pioneer Hospital is open to guests for the 2023 season.

Those who are interested can go on free guided tours through the Provincial Historic Resource Site, which was built between 1911 and 1912. Throughout the tour, visitors will see household antiques, and get a sense of how the family and patients who stayed on the property lived by seeing different artifacts on display including primitive medical equipment.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says the site is a treasured facility in the community.

“We look forward to another season of this fun and immersive experience for visitors of all ages to come to learn about our community’s historic beginnings and see how some of the first settlers made Grande Prairie the city it is today.”
