MD of Greenview evacuation orders cancelled

As of 9:59 a.m. Sunday, May 28th all evacuation orders in the MD of Greenview were cancelled, including those in the Eagle wildfire complex between or around the Town of Fox Creek and Hamlet of Little Smoky.

According to the Alberta Emergency Alert, “Wildfires remain hazardous in the area.”

In the latest update from Alberta Wildfire, for the Whitecourt Forest Area, the two fires which make up the Eagle complex were still classified as out of control and estimated to be out 73,479 and 55,344 hectares in size. Wildland Urban Interface Fire Structure Protection crews are also reported to have left the Fox Creek area with the wildfire threat to the community reduced, however, the sprinklers which had been set up were left in place as a precaution. The Fox Creek fire department has also resumed normal duties but is ready to help those fighting the wildfire again if needed.

As of May 27th the MD is also allowing residents from the Sandy Bay area who were looking to get to their home, controlled access. Meaning as of 1 p.m. Saturday, all owners have to complete an access permit to enter and exit the community at the setup checkpoint.
