City delays mowing schedule due to extreme heat, dry conditions

The city will delay its main mowing operations ahead of the summer as extremely hot, dry conditions continue to plague the region. The City of Grande Prairie says its top priority is to assess the mowing and fire risk to ensure the safety and well-being of of the community.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will evaluate the feasibility of our main mowing later this week,” it explains in a release. “The full-scale start of all mowing operations across the City is currently on hold as we assess the situation and prioritize safety.”

Priority mowing, like that for sports fields and lands that are irrigated and require maintenance will continue to take place under supervision.
