Grande Prairie region spared from widespread wildfires

The province is experiencing one of its worst wildfire seasons of the past five years, but the Grande Prairie region has been relatively unscathed so far.

There are more than 120 wildfires currently burning in northern Alberta, but none are active in the Grande Prairie Wildfire Management Area. Five are burning about 60 kilometres from High Level, but aren’t threatening the community.

While recent rain has helped dampen some of the blazes, thunderstorms have also led to more lightning-sparked fires.
