United Way looks to triple impact of annual fundraiser

The Alberta Northwest United Way is going into its annual campaign kickoff Thursday morning with a goal to raise $450,000. The United Way has a goal to affect 15,000 lives with the funds raised in 2022, compared to the 4,651 lives that were impacted by the funds raised in 2021.

Executive Director Tracy Zuk says it takes just $30 to make a difference in someone’s life.

“$30 can help seniors receive a meal on Meals and Wheels. $30 can help someone get to work with a pair of boots. $30 can fill a child’s tummy so they can learn better. It is very simple and it is achievable,” Zuk says.

Zuk explains that the region has seen an increase in poverty due to the pandemic and rising inflation. She says that for the campaign to be successful it will take the entire community coming together.

“We want our citizens, our businesses, everybody to support what we do in our region. Everything that we raised in Grande Prairie and our region, stays in Grande Prairie and our region.”
