County set to begin work on Range Road 125

Drivers are being warned to expect delays as construction is set to begin on a nearly $1.95 million project at Highway 43 at Range Road 125.

The work will update the turning lane south heading towards the gas plant. Officials say the work will involve digging out the old road; re-aligning, and building a new road from the bottom up and preparing it for new pavement.

Back in April, County of Grande Prairie Director Of Public Works Dale Van Volkenberg says some of the $975,000, about half the total price of the project, will be done in partnership with Veresen Midstream, which owns an operation in the area. He added in the long run, it should create a healthy return on investment for taxpayers in the County.

“Because of the expansion within the Veresen forecast, they’re talking about multiple expansions to that gas plant. It’s making the highway safe, the intersection safe and also supporting the expansion which brings more taxes to the county,” he said.
