Flight from Grande Prairie makes emergency landing in Lethbridge

People on their way from Grande Prairie to Calgary have made an impromptu stop in Lethbridge. Westjet Encore flight 3188 had to be diverted due to an issue with an instrument delay Friday afternoon.

“Out of an abundance of caution and due to unfavourable weather conditions in both Calgary and Edmonton at the time, our pilots declared an emergency to ensure priority and diverted to the Lethbridge Airport,” says Media and Public Relations Advisor Morgan Bell.

Wesjet says emergency services met the plane in Lethbridge and no injuries have been reported. A passenger on the plane says they’ve been told a mechanic has arrived and the hope is to have them on their way to Calgary by 9 p.m.

“We understand this may have been an alarming incident for those guests involved and for this we apologize,” adds Bell.
