One dead in Taylor Bridge crash

One person was killed in a crash on Highway 97 some time before 2:40 a.m. Friday morning. RCMP say they were ejected from their vehicle on the Taylor Bridge, but their name is not being released. The Alaska Highway News reports he was a teen from Dawson Creek.

Sergeant Tim Paulmert with Peace Region Traffic Services is reminding drivers to adjust to the weather, especially with recent changes in patterns that can change conditions drastically. Everyone in a vehicle is also reminded to wear their seatbelt.

“Seatbelts are designed to keep you in the engineered life space of the vehicle. Modern vehicles are designed to crumble around the passengers to keep them as safe as possible in the event of a collision.”

There was another fatal crash on the Taylor Bridge nearly a decade ago. In April 2008, a drunk driver tried to pass a van on the bridge and ended up plummeting the vehicle over the side. His passenger was killed and he was sentenced to five years in prison.
