Fort McMurray wildfire no longer expected to grow

The Fort McMurray wildfire is no longer growing. Officials says it’s now classified as being held for the first time since early May.

While that means it’s not supposed to spread past its expected boundaries, it doesn’t mean the blaze is under control. It’s still burning more than 589,000 hectares but the hard work of firefighters and recent rain have helped keep the flames in check.

80,000 residents were evacuated on May 3rd, but many have since made their way back home. Others nearby the more damaged neighbourhoods may have to wait until the end of summer if cleanup is done by then.
