Radio and print-a-thon raises over $18,000 for Grande Prairie and District SPCA

Over 18 thousand dollars was raised in the radio and print-a-thon yesterday for the Grande Prairie and District SPCA. Local media including three radio stations got together for a Save Our Shelter campaign at the Eastlink Centre to try and raise as much funds as possible during a 12 hour time span.

This comes after the SPCA had its accounts frozen by the Canada Revenue Agency because of an owing of $120,000. The organization was forced to close it’s doors yesterday but is looking to the County and City of Grande Prairie to jointly give $200,000 to buy them some opportunity to get on their feet. Earlier in the week the Board President Laurie Fisherand Executive Director Cheryl Carlson presented to both but the ask was put on hold until the two entities could meet in the next few days.

You can still donate to the SPCA by heading to the GP SPCA website.
