Three arrested at Site C protest

Three people were arrested at a Site C protest yesterday. According to local reports, the first was former Peace River Regional District Director Arthur Hadland, who was reportedly blocking vehicles from getting in to the work site.

Later in the day, two other people in the road refused offers from police to move to the side to continue their peaceful protest. Inspector Mike Kurvers says the RCMP in Fort St. John respect people’s right to protest, and will even facilitate, but have to enforce the criminal code.

Wednesday’s protest was in support of those camped out at a historic fort site on the south bank of the Peace River. First Nations members there say they are prepared to face arrest to protect their traditional territory.
