City crews gearing up in anticipation of snowy weekend in Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie celebrated Dry January in its own way this year, with very little snow all month long; however, the snowless streak came to an end on the 28th, prompting removal crews to begin their work once again.

Temperatures are forecasted to fall well below zero throughout the weekend and into next week, with the most snow expected to hit the city on January 31st. As a result, crews have been hard at work to ensure the roads are cleared for travel ahead of the big dump.

So far this week, sanders have been taking care of main roads and outskirts, city facility parking lots have been cleared, spot blading has begun in Riverstone, Cobblestone, and Highland Park, all while main roads get their own cleanup.

Meanwhile, water truck crews have been busy completing maintenance and outfall work, while alley clearing has begun in Mission Heights.

The city maintains water maintenance, along with pothole repairs have been ongoing throughout the week to keep roads in good condition.

As more snow is in the forecast, it is anticipated crews will begin their usual rotation of week A and week B neighbourhood snow clearing sometime after the first significant snowfall, and residents are reminded to stay at least three car lengths behind snowplows and equipment to give crews the space they need to complete their work safely and efficiently.
