A new bill has been tabled in the provincial government that would place Alberta’s farms and ranches under Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Bill 6 would also mean farmers and ranchers would be covered under Workers’ Compensation Board insurance.
Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour Lori Sigurdson says these are basic protections that other workers in the province have had for decades. If the bill is passed into law, OHS standards would come into play on January 1st, with detailed rules on the way next spring.
A town hall for input on proposed changes will be held in the Grande Prairie area on November 26th.
