Canfor reducing lumber production in Alberta, B.C.

Canfor says it will be temporarily reducing production at all of its solid wood facilities in B.C. and Alberta. It points to “very weak market conditions” as the reasoning behind removing roughly 150 million board feet in December and January.

The curtailment is slated to start December 19th and will last between one and four weeks. Canfor says it’s due to a significant decrease in demand for solid wood products and challenging economic conditions.

“We will be working to mitigate the impacts on our employees by providing support and identifying meaningful work during the downtime,” says Canfor President and CEO Don Kayne.
