The Grande Prairie RCMP is investigating reports of stolen Pride flags and a mural that was defaced. It’s reported that since September, several Pride flags were stolen from the VLA Montrose area and a flag was also found burnt in the downtown area.
RCMP also received reports that the mural painted by the Gay and Lesbian Association of the Peace in The Community Vilage has been defaced with what authorities describe as hateful signs and words on several occasions.
The RCMP says it doesn’t know if these events are connected.
“Although it is difficult to determine motivations of those responsible until they are identified, this mischief demonstrates a hateful and non-tolerated attitude towards the 2SLGBTQ+ community.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers or Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5701.
