County of Grande Prairie council has approved borrowing up to $4.8 million dollars to help pay for needed improvements to parts of Resources Road south of the City of Grande Prairie.
Reeve Leanne Beaupre says after approving detailed design for improvements to Resource Road at the proposed Nauticol project south of the city in October 2021, she’s happy to see another step towards taken towards completion of much needed infrastructure repair. She adds it’s one of the major arteries for traffic, whether its coming out of the river valley, or from the county into the City of Grande Prairie.
“It’s been identified through our Transportation Master Plan as a road that requires improvement and investment every so many years, but with additional traffic, and the expectation for additional traffic for the Nauticol project, we just believe it’s a good time to make those changes and improvements,” she adds.
Beaupre says in addition to municipal and provincial funding, officials are still in the process of asking local industry to add their own share as well.
“I believe discussions are on-going with the industry members in the area, we haven’t got any firm commitment I believe at this point. Those are ongoing discussions for sure,” she adds.
The Resources Road Improvement Project includes the road widening and intersection improvements on Resources Road near the Nauticol plant site.
