Alberta Culture Days kicks off in Grande Prairie

A full month of activities is available for those in the Grande Prairie region to help celebrate Culture Days in the province. Centre for Creative Arts Executive Director Candace Hook says they’re thrilled to be able to take such a large role in what is a premier month-long series of events.

“We’ve been involved with Alberta Culture Days for over 10 years, but to be selected as a feature celebration site is special, as they only choose five across the province,” she says.

“We have such a diverse amount of programming throughout the month, so that’s one thing I’m excited to share because I think unless people have been to, or are familiar with Grande Prairie, you might not know how many cultural organizations we have.

Amongst the activities planned for the month are free creativity kits from the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, which will allow patrons to take home premade art kits to use however they please. As well, as a free art kit from the Centre for Creative Arts Executive which will let those in the city draw on the go.

Hook says Grande Prairie as a whole may be one of the best-kept secrets in Alberta when it comes to the options for those in the region to get involved in the arts and culture community.

“We have excellent facilities, active volunteers, good organizations, and I think it’s probably impossible to find a weekend, or weekday when no arts and culture activities happening,” she says.

“There is lots to celebrate, there is a lot to participate in, and hopefully through September with all these events being free, it gives people a chance to try different things to see where they fit. It’s a bit cliche, but there is something for everyone with culture in Grande Prairie.”

Alberta Culture Days run until September 30th.
