UPDATE: Wildfire southwest of Grande Cache reassessed to four hectares

UPDATE #2: Alberta Wildfire has reassessed the size of the wildfire and now says it is being held at four hectares.

UPDATE: Alberta Wildfire says that, as of Monday, the fire southwest of Grande Cache has grown to six hectares. It has been determined to have been caused by lightning.

Alberta Wildfire says a new wildfire has been detected in the Grande Cache area. It’s located 24 kilometres southwest of the hamlet and is 2.5 hectares in size.

As of 8 p.m., it’s reported the blaze is out of control but no communities are being threatened. Residents of Grande Cache may notice smoke coming from the Smoky River valley. Smoke may also be noticed across the province due to recent wildfires in Alberta as well as winds from B.C. wildfires.
