Fire restrictions for northwestern Alberta

Starting at noon today, more fire restrictions are in effect for northwestern Alberta.

No open fires or wood campfires will be allowed in the backcountry or random camping areas. However, safe wood campfires within fire rings, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues that don’t use charcoal briquettes can still be used in campgrounds.

Any current fire permits could be suspended or cancelled, and new permits may not be issued.

Conditions across the region are bone dry, and an out of control wildfire south of the Red Earth Creek has grown to more than 330 hectares. A Peace River man has been charged with arson.
