Group applications open for annual County clean-up

The County of Grande Prairie is accepting applications from non-profits and community groups for its annual roadside clean-up. The clean-up gives the groups the opportunity of making money while picking up garbage along county roadways, ditches, and hamlets in the region.

County Technical Services Manager Jennifer Besinger says the event is a win-win situation for the county and the non-profits.

“The benefits of this annual program are twofold in that our County roadsides receive an annual clean-up, and it provides valued support to local organizations,” she says. “The groups who take part gain hands-on experience in caring for our environment while making a positive impact in their communities.”

Last year, the event had 32 non-profit groups clean up 12 tonnes of garbage from nearly 285 kilometres of County roadsides, raising over $53,000 in the process.
