Annual Good Buy To Hunger campaign raises $45,000 in December

The annual Good Buy to Hunger campaign brought in $45,000. The campaign runs every December and has been going on for more than 20 years. Amanda Pinard, Marketing Team Leader of New Horizon Co-op in Grande Prairie says she’s glad to be part of such a caring, tight-knit community.

“It’s just phenomenal, Grande Prairie and surrounding areas, they’re just such grateful individuals who like giving back to the community.”

The initiative provides local organizations with assistance to try and make sure no one goes hungry.

“Those funds we raised, it helps to feed the hungry through local food banks, soup kitchens, emergency drop-in centres, school breakfast, and lunch programs as well as many more not-for-profit groups,” she says.

Pinard recognizes that there is a growing concern for the number of people in need of food, but at the same time, she is glad that the campaign can make a difference for people.

“Unfortunately there is such a great need, which makes this incredible, [that] this money can be raised for an amazing cause,” she says.

Pinard says that in 2021 the campaign raised a bit more, but that the total this year is “phenomenal.”

The community and patrons raised $30,086, while the company itself match donated $15,000. Grande Prairie is one of twelve communities supported by the Good Buy to Hunger campaign.
