Try-It Day postponed until February

Try-It Day in Grande Prairie has been postponed until February due to COVID-19 concerns. Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection Executive Director Karna Germsheid says it was a tough decision, but the right one.

“We have more than 15 different facilities, close to 600 youth participants, and 23 different sporting organizations engaged in the event. However, with the current spike in COVID-19 cases, we felt it was the best decision to postpone it for another month to make sure we can run a successful event in February.”

The event was originally slated for January 15th. Germsheid marvels at the engagement they were seeing.

“We opened the registration for only two days and we had about 150 people currently registered, so we were well on track to hit the usual amount of 600 participants. We hosted a Try-It Day in September with the same sort of numbers,” she says.

The decision to postpone was very difficult for the organization and Germsheid feels for the families and everyone else affected.

“I know that the families were engaged and excited for the event. We also want to support our organization members. Unfortunately, when you have kids and youth signing up for four different sports in four different facilities it’s just not the responsible thing to do,” she says. “We’re always excited for Try-It Day, it’s our favourite event.”

The new date for Try-It Day is February 26th. The event includes 29 different sports for youth ages 6-17 and registration will be available here.
