An old pig barn has been completely destroyed by fire in Dawson Creek. Crews arrived around midnight Monday morning expected a grass fire, but found the building completely engulfed in flames.
A tanker and 20 firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to the nearby woods, but because of where it was, a water shuttle operation was needed to get a water supply. The fire department was able to contain the blaze quickly after arrival, and it was totally extingushed within a couple of hours.
The barn was being used as a storage building for Lawrence Meat Packing, and is considered a total loss. No injuries have been reported, and the cause is under investigation.
