Local coach developer recognized provincially

You hear a lot about the tremendous athletes that come out of Grande Prairie, but not always those who support them. Alberta Sport Connection has recognized Grande Prairie’s Leigh Goldie with its Don Watts Coach Developer Award.

Goldie has taught at GPRC for the past 40 years in Physical Education and Kinesiology, conducting more than 100 courses, and coaching teams at the provincial and national level. He’s also the CCAA president, as well as president for Volleyball Alberta and chair of the Grande Prairie Sport Council.

He received the accolade at an awards banquet in Banff last Friday, where he was praised as not just a teacher, but an asset to the coaching world.
