Wind pushes wildfire hazard up to Moderate

Windy conditions in and around Grande Prairie have elevated the local fire hazard to moderate.

Burn permits are still being issued by the county of Grande Prairie but those using them are asked to make sure they are familiar with safe burning practices, including not burning any brush piles when the winds are in excess of 12 kilometres.

On top of that, if you have already been doing some burning this spring you are asked to double check those old piles for any unburnt fuel or hotspots that need to be doused.  Fire piles should be drenched in water once the burning is complete to prevent the potential spread of dormant fires or heat.
