City dealing with Montrose Cultural Centre drainage issues

Some work to fix drainage issues around the Montrose Cultural Centre is going to set the city back $648,098.

Work is expected to begin soon, hopefully to be completed by the end of summer.

Mayor Bill Given says there may be some disruptions to those using the facility until then.

“It will no doubt impact patron access to the facility. Administration was very direct with that at the committee meeting. They are going to be working with the library and the art gallery and patrons to organize alternate access.”

Given says some of the surface on the north side of the Library will have to be removed.

“That would really be just to facilitate the inclusion of a drainage channel. The combination of the grading that slopes down towards the building and some concern around the sub surface materials that are there have led to this frost heave issue.”

Given says city administration is considering pursuing legal options.
