Grande Prairie City Council took the time Thursday to hand over funding to local community groups in person.
The local STARS base received $50,000, the Grande Prairie and District Victim Services Association $45,000, and Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities took home $24,000.
This is the first time the city has invited the community groups to city hall to receive their cheques, as Mayor Bill Given says they wanted to show their support not just with money.
Technical Search and Rescue was also awarded $22,500Â but was unable to attend the photo op.
