Grande Prairie forward named CIS men’s hockey player of the year

Grande Prairie product Spencer Pommells has been honoured as the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men’s hockey player of the year.

The 5’10”, 175-pound forward  plays for the University of Windsor, and earned 50 points in 27 league games this season, including 16 goals and a league-leading 34 assists.

Pommells graduated from Grande Prairie Composite High in 2008 and played for the Storm, and went on to play in the AJHL and Kootenay International Junior Hockey League before he was signed to the Windsor Lancers four years ago.

That team placed first in the Ontario University Athletics conference, and Pommells was named a first-team all-Canadian and an OUA West Division first-team all-star.
