UPDATE: ASIRT investigating fatal officer-involved shooting

UPDATE: The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting in Grande Prairie Tuesday night. A man was killed in what’s been called an altercation with officers.

Police say they were initially called to reports of a disturbance in the area of 100 Street and 132 Avenue around 8:15 p.m. It’s reported there was an altercation that led to officers firing their weapons.

A man considered a suspect was declared dead at the scene. ASIRT will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and the officers’ actions, while RCMP will continue to investigate what led up to the interaction.

Police say there are no concerns for public safety after an incident in the north end of Grande Prairie Tuesday night. However few details have been provided.
