Domestic dispute prompts hold and secure protocol at Grande Prairie schools

Reports of a man with a possible firearm is what prompted RCMP to put three Grande Prairie school under a hold and secure order over the lunch hour today.

It was reported around 11:45 a.m. that a man and a woman were arguing in the area of 104th Avenue and 91st Street, and the man appeared to have a rifle.

As a precautionary measure, the students at I.V. Macklin, Hillside Community, and Holy Cross schools were kept inside with the doors locked, but police say there was never any threat directed towards students or staff.

The hold and secure was lifted at 1 p.m. and the matter is under investigation.

All available resources responded, but no one has been taken into custody.
