Grande Prairie Public School District looking at Late Entry French Immersion

New families to Grande Prairie that missed the opportunity of entering their kids into French Immersion at the kindergarten level may have a chance to still do so at a later grade.
Superintendent Carol Ann McDonald says Grande Prairie Public School District is considering a Late Entry French Immersion program.
“If you haven’t started early immersion in kindergarten, then you can’t join or it’s very difficult to catch up, so what we’re offering is the possibility of a late entry in grade five.”
Montrose School would play host to the late entry program.
If there is enough interest, the program would offer full French Immersion at the grade five level in all subjects except for options.
McDonald says that equals about 75 per cent learning in French.
Information sessions are set for both February 24th and March 4th at 7 p.m. at Montrose School.
