In the past three months, almost 40 sleds have been stolen in the Grande Prairie area, prompting RCMP to ask snowmobile owners to take extra precaution when securing their machines.
In the event that a sled is stolen, police ask that you have the serial number, VIN, and make and model recorded to help in the investigation and with insurance companies.
To help avoid that situation, make sure not to lock your snowmobile to anything that can be cut, broken or moved.
Also, lock it when transporting it on a trailer on in the back of a truck, and never leave the key in the ignition.
An investigation into the rash of thefts continues.
