Grande Prairie residents encouraged to get outdoors for Winter Walk Day

Despite the cold weather, Grande Prairie residents are encouraged to get outside and get active this week.

Tomorrow is Winter Walk Day here, and across the province.

Be Fit For Life Coordinator Jodi Minton says there is a walk organized from 12 to 1 tomorrow, but that doesn’t have to be the outdoor activity.

“You can go to the uwalk website [uwalk.ca] and register, and it’s really just any 15 minutes of activity, outside in the beautiful, wonderful outdoors. So whether it’s walking, skiing, playing with your dog, playing with your kids, tobogganing, it doesn’t matter.”

It is fitting that Winter Walk day arrives tomorrow, just as winter-like weather returns to Grande Prairie.

Minton says for those who live in northern communities, it is all too easy to stay indoors all winter.

“It’s winter 8 months out of the year, so we need to embrace that. Grande Prairie specifically has some really great walking paths and wonderful outdoor activities that people can do, so we would want to promote as many of those activities as possible.”

The organized walk starts at the GPRC anytime between 12 and 1 pm, and is a full loop around the reservoir.
