Driver dead after school bus crashes with semi north of Grimshaw

The driver of a school bus has died after a collision with a semi truck north of Grimshaw this morning.

The crash occurred on Highway 35 around 8:20 a.m., and 14 elementary and high school students were on board the bus at the time.

Six passengers are being treated in hospital for minor injuries, while another seven are being treated for more serious but non-life threatening injuries like broken limbs.

One student has been flown to an Edmonton-area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, along with the 36 year old male semi driver, who has serious undetermined injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening as well.

RCMP believes the southbound school bus crossed the centre line, while the semi was in the far right northbound lane.

The driver was a 60 year old male, whose name has not been released.

An investigation into the collision continues.
