Staff at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie are hoping an upcoming workshop will get some local youth interested in art.
Coinciding with the launch of the new exhibit, ‘Sonic Youth’, the workshop is free to attend and is open to people ages 13 to 17. Artist Emily Promise Allison will be running the event and describes it as two hours of pure magic.
“We are going to be working together to create some experimental pieces and to work with The Soft Machine, which is the new sculpture which is installed for the Thursday opening at the gallery.”
‘Sonic Youth’, is a group show involving 13 artists and revolves around the role of youth in the avant-garde, with highlights about making noise, disrupting the peace and challenging the concept of the status quo.
Allison is the creator of the interactive sculpture The Soft Machine. Gallery Executive Director Jeff Erbach says getting to work with her will be a great experience for the participants.
“There’s gonna be something really special happening at the gallery Saturday afternoon. Being able to work with Emily in that environment with her piece that has been created for this show is really unique.”
The workshop will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the art gallery. Space is limited and those interested in attending will have to sign up with the gallery at [email protected].
