Upcoming presentation to explore how to support LGBTQ2IA+ youth

An upcoming workshop aims to give people the knowledge to better support LGBTQ2IA+ youth in Grande Prairie. On November 20th, Alberta Health Services will be holding a free presentation called Working with Gender & Sexual Minority Youth.

“It’s covering basic information about gender and sexual minority youth and how to create safe spaces and how to support young people at home, at school and within the health care system,” says facilitator and Mental Health Therapist Nicole Marshall.

While this presentation has previously been given to people in the healthcare and education fields, this is only the second time it’s been open to the public.

Marshall says this event is important to have because she says there’s a lot of misinformation out there.

“Research demonstrates that people who identify as sexual or gender minority have many unmet health needs and reduced likelihood of accessing routine care. We want to get accurate information out there to all people that are looking for that information rather than Google or Facebook.”

The presentation will be held at Crystal Park School on 116 Avenue from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
