GRPC Students looking to foster better relationship with city

Representatives of the Students’ Association of the Grande Prairie Regional College are hoping Grande Prairie City Council can help those attending the college better come to grips with problems surrounding affordability.

Students’ Association President Lindsey Comeau says while nothing specifically has fallen behind, they’re hoping an ongoing, open dialogue will help the students feel that their top priorities are at least being taken seriously.

“A lot had to do with affordability, which is an ongoing issue in any city, but transit has ongoing concerns for students where they’d like more accessibility and things of that nature.”

Comeau says affordable housing is also a huge concern for students, but she hopes fostering a relationship will help open up possible solutions.

“To see where they may be able to help students find more accessible, affordable housing and things of that nature. That’s why we are here today to start that relationship.”

She adds they have spoken with Mayor Bill Given on numerous occasions in the past, and believes the city council is willing and able to help out to the best of their ability.

The list of priorities was selected after results from a week-long survey made available to GPRC students were collected.
