The city is asking the public to give their honest opinions when it comes to the proposed Affordable Housing Strategy.
A special council Committee of the Whole meeting has been called, with the express purpose to allow public delegations on the subject.
The 2020-2030 Affordable Housing Strategy and Grande Prairie Community Housing Company Business Plan suggests that to meet demand, the City of Grande Prairie must create 359 new units for people who qualify.
Currently, the city has over 3,000 households meeting the threshold of “core housing needs”, which means they don’t have appropriate housing or pay more than 30 per cent of their gross income on housing costs. However, there are only 766 affordable housing units available.
For those looking to speak at the meeting, city officials as asking that people consider addressing the following questions:
-Do you or organization support the Administration’s analysis of what the community’s affordable housing need is?
-Are there broad areas of the strategy that you or your organization support?
– Are there areas where you or your organization believe you can play a role to support an Affordable Housing Strategy?
-Are there specific areas of the strategy that you or your organization are concerned with?
People wishing to speak at the meeting can sign up here. The special meeting will take place on November 5th at 9 a.m. in council chambers.
